A LOCAL band who call themselves the punksters of pop have just released their first CD.
The Me Me's got together about a year ago, arising from the ashes of popular tribute band Clash City Rockers.
They have members from South Shields, Jarrow, Stanley and Newcastle, and have been picking up fans wherever they play.
Rather than playing songs by just one band, they cover a whole range of artists, in punked-up fashion.
It's not an original idea – Me First And The Gimme Gimmes have been doing it for years in the US – but it is enormous fun.
Their six-track EP, released on their own Punksters Of Pop label, kicks off with their inimitable version of the Johnny Cash classic Ring Of Fire.
It also includes their takes on The Beach Boys' Then I Kissed Her, David Bowie's Space Oddity, Badfinger's Can't Live (If Living Is Without You), Abba's Mamma Mia, and Buddy Holly's It Doesn't Matter Anymore.
They often throw in a classic punk intro too, and half the fun is guessing which song it's going to morph into!
